Woodward High School’s Tessa Endersby
Woodward High School sophomore Tessa Endersby is already carving out a reputation as a dependable and driven member of her varsity softball team, bringing both skill and composure to every game she plays.
Endersby, who plays catcher and second base, emphasizes consistency and resilience as keys to her approach. “My process at the plate is to attack every pitch like it’s a strike and be ready to swing,” she said. That same mindset carries into her defensive role, particularly behind the plate, where she says the biggest challenge is handling mistakes. “You have to learn to just shake it off and move to the next pitch. You can’t dwell on it the rest of the game.”
A 10th grader, Endersby credits athletics with teaching her how to remain calm under pressure and be someone others can rely on. Those lessons, she said, extend beyond softball and into everyday life.
She draws inspiration from former Oklahoma State softball player Ruby Meylan. “She works hard and competes with confidence,” Endersby said. “She never gives up, even when things get challenging, and she always gives her best effort.”
Endersby said her favorite part of being on the team is the sense of connection and support. “Knowing someone has your back and being a part of something bigger” stands out most, she said. She added that her teammates share a unique bond, describing them as kind, supportive and always able to enjoy moments together.
Within the team dynamic, Endersby points to Kaleigh Mills as a vocal leader and someone who has made a lasting impression on her. “She is a great leader and always supports her teammates,” Endersby said. She also noted Paislea Morales as the teammate who keeps everyone laughing, while Haylee Nail is known for leaving the field with the dirtiest uniform.
Off the field, Endersby stays active through Student Council and FFA, where she participates in community service efforts. She also enjoys attending church and Bible studies in her free time.
In the classroom, math is her favorite subject, and she fondly remembers her Pre-K teacher, Mrs. Kornele, as her favorite educator.
Whether on the field or in her community, Endersby continues to demonstrate a commitment to growth, teamwork and perseverance, qualities that define her as both an athlete and a student.
