Wyatt Pope is a 17-year-old senior multi-sport athlete for the Woodward High School Boomers, and he is gearing up for his final run on the football field.
“I started football in the fourth grade,” Pope said. “And I have loved it ever since. I love having the ability to go full speed every play, and I love the brotherhood of the team. We started out with Clinton last week and fought hard, but weren’t able to come away with the win,” Pope continued. “We have moved on and are learning from our mistakes, trying to get better each and every day.”
Pope said as a senior, he recognizes that the role of a leader is one of great importance to the team, and he wants to make sure he has his priorities in the right place to be a good example.
“They [the underclassmen] look up to you for everything,” he said. “And I try to set the best example of a player. You have to show up to practice and work hard every day, no slacking or going easy. There are many different types of leaders, but I believe I best represent leadership through my actions on and off the field. I know I have to be knowledgeable in the game and be able to help coach the younger players.”
Pope said he wants to say a special thanks to the WHS coaching staff for building him into the player he is today, and his teammates for being great brothers.
