Woodward Girls Soccer Preview – Presented by Larry K Hill Studios

After an 11-5 season a year ago, head coach Amy Province is excited to see what the Lady Boomers can accomplish with another year of experience behind them.

Last season the Lady Boomers made it to the semifinals of the Class 4A state tournament only to be turned away, 0-1 by Holland Hall. Coach Province believes they are close to reaching their ultimate goal.

“This upcoming season, we have eight out of our 11 starters returning. We have made it to the semi-finals the past two years now and these eight starters are hungry to make it back and further than last year. We have great potential coming off our bench to fill the other three spots on the field. We will definitely be working towards our end goal which is the state game this year,” said coach Province.

Four-year starter Ava Long is leading the way. Her play is key for the Lady Boomers and coach Province expects this season to be her best on record.

“Ava is a leader on and off the field. She is a hard worker and never quits. We utilize her on almost every play of the game. She can play anywhere on the field, but her strong suit is defense. Ava has been a great asset to helping us make it to the state semifinals the past two years. She has signed with the University of Central Oklahoma to play soccer in fall,” said coach Province.

Averi Edwards seems to be all over the field when she plays. A fact not lost on coach Province.

“Averi is our motor that never stops. When we need her to use her speed up top to get past defenders, she’ll do it with no problem and then be right back to take the ball from one of their players on defense. She is everywhere on the field and gives 100 percent every game. She’s a four-year starter for our team and has been a great asset to helping us make it to the state semifinals the past two years. Averi plans to attend college to play soccer in the fall,” said coach Province.

Other players to watch include Bryleigh Douglas-Fischer (So.), Jubelqui Miramontes (Sr.), Kendal Wells (Sr.), Lily Luckett (Jr.), Kloey Winn (So.), Carli Burton (Sr.), Aleah Chase (So.), Drew Elliott (So.), Lauren Elliott (Fr.), Emily Hall (Jr.), Alexis Ibarra (Jr.), Michele Ibarra (So.), Autumn Jones (Jr.), Camryn Koch (Fr.), Josie Littau (Fr.), Ava Long (Sr.), Riley Moore (Jr.), Ava Miller (Fr.), Thessaly Pfeifer (Sr.), Presley Pruett (Sr.), Yadira Reyes (Fr.), Alyssa Roach (Jr.), Zoey Roberts (So.), Averee Taylor (So.), and Val Vera (So.).
