Woodward High School’s Kaleigh Mills – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Randy’s Pharmacy

Woodward High School’s Kaleigh Mills

Woodward High School senior Kaleigh Mills is embracing her final season with a strong sense of purpose, leadership and resilience as a key member of the varsity softball team.

Mills, a pitcher, has developed a reputation for thriving under pressure, a trait she credits to both her mindset and experience. “The most difficult thing about my position would have to be the pressure,” she said. “But honestly, the pressure is what makes pitching so great. I love it, and I honestly thrive under it.”

Her approach to the game reflects both preparation and confidence. Before stepping into the batter’s box, Mills studies opposing pitchers carefully, focusing on timing and pitch selection. Once at the plate, she relies on positive self-talk and composure. “I remind myself that I’m prepared, I’m capable, and that no pitcher is going to beat me,” she said.

Mills draws inspiration from her parents, whom she describes as her biggest supporters, along with mentor Logan Long, a former Kansas State football player. “Seeing both of them work so hard for me and our family is truly amazing,” she said.

Off the field, Mills stays active in her community through FMC youth group, National Honor Society and HOSA. In the classroom, she enjoys math and credits her Vo-Tech health careers teacher, Mrs. Swallow, as a favorite educator.

As a senior, Mills values the team’s growth and unity during a rebuilding phase. “We’re creating a culture of hard work and accountability,” she said. “I’m proud to be part of laying the foundation for what this program can become.”

She also appreciates the close bonds within the team, highlighting teammates who bring energy and humor. “Tessa is always loud in the dugout, and we love her for it,” Mills said. “Kira keeps everyone laughing no matter what.”

Looking ahead, Mills carries lessons learned through athletics. “Things don’t always go your way,” she said. “You have to adapt, work through challenges and keep moving forward.”
