Woodward Football Character Counts – Luis Corral – Presented by Randy’s Pharmacy

Luis Corral is a senior for the Woodward Boomers football team and plays both defensive end and tight end. The Woodward coaching staff speaks very highly of Corral and say “Luis is one of those players that you know you can always depend on and he treats all players and coaches with respect. Hard working athlete and has turned himself into a very good football player!”

When it comes to being a veteran player and providing leadership Corral knows what qualities are necessary to keep the team motivated and stay positive. Corral realizes that football is a team game and one of the key factors is being able to listen and communicate with one another.

“An important quality that makes a good teammate is being a good listener,” Corral said. “Being able to communicate with your team and build on something is important.”

Corral has always been a fan of the sport and first started playing competitively in junior high. One of his favorite aspects of the game is the unity that accompanies being a part of a team and the bond that he gets to form with his friends and teammates.

“I started playing in seventh grade,” Corral said. “I love the team bonding involved in the game. No other sport in my opinion involves as much brotherhood as football does.”

Corral has set goals for himself this year and has been working hard to accomplish them both on the field and in the classroom.

“A goal for this football season would be making a run into the playoffs,” Corral said. “On the academic side, a goal would be to graduate with a 4.0 GPA.”

When Corral needs advice or support he knows where to turn – his family – and is thankful for their support and encouragement throughout his high school career.

“My dad has been my role model in my life,” Corral said. “He has taught me to always give it my all and that I can achieve anything if I put my mind to it.”

Looking ahead into the season Corral is excited to be competing under the Friday night lights, however, there is one game in particular that he has circled on his calendar.

“Our last regular season against Clinton is definitely the game I’m looking forward too the most,” Corral said.

As a senior Corral is already looking ahead to the future and his plan after high school.

“After high school I plan on going to college and majoring in nutrition,” Corral said. “Working at a college and providing a football team with a meal plan for each individual player is what I would like to do.”
