As a youngster Chris Rosale’s father got him involved in a number of sports but by eighth grade there was one that stuck with him.

“I enjoyed football and baseball was fun, but soccer was the one I stayed with.

Growing up I looked to my dad for local leadership and followed the career of (Brazilian soccer star) Neymar.”

It was in soccer, where he plays center mid, that he recalls one of his highlights as a Boomer.

“My sophomore year we went to the state finals against Clinton and even though we lost, it was still a thrill. The seniors that year were, by far, my favorite class. They were talented but they were also very
encouraging to us younger players. That was also the most community support I’ve ever seen for a soccer team in Woodward,” said Rosales, himself now a senior leader of his team. “I think a leader is not necessarily the person in charge but it’s the one who guides. It’s not about telling people but about showing and helping those who need it. Out on the field I think everyone feeds off my energy and demeanor so I always try to give my best energy so the other others can reciprocate off that.”

Chris is also a part of the Boomer Band and was a drum major this year.

“My older brother got me into music in sixth grade and I played trumpet until my sophomore year when I learned some of the percussion instruments.”

As a drum major, he was an integral part of the highly successful marching band season in which Woodward finished in the top 10 finals in several competitions and as high as fourth in one.

“We also made the finals in OBA competition this year which is something that hasn’t happened in over 30 years,” said Rosales who says he prefers playing in the marching band more than concert band.

“Marching band is just more vibrant and there’s more energy to it. Everyone is happy and jumping around when we go to competitions and it’s just not as serious as concert band. I’ve really enjoyed seeing the joy on everyone’s faces during the year as we got better and better.”

Following graduation, Chris plans to attend the University of Oklahoma and study computer engineering and try out for the Pride of Oklahoma band
