Woodward’s Madelyn Castor – Golf Spotlight

At Woodward High School, sophomore Madelyn Castor knows that success in golf isn’t just about hitting perfect shots; it’s about patience, composure, and learning to trust the process. As she continues her journey with the Lady Boomers golf team, Madelyn’s love for the game has grown alongside her appreciation for what it teaches her off the course.

“Golf taught me the importance of patience and staying calm,” Madelyn said. “If you rush or get anxious, things usually don’t go well. When you slow down and relax, everything feels easier.”

Her favorite memory isn’t about her own performance; it’s about watching a teammate shine. “Last season, the team went to watch Madison play at the State Tournament after she qualified as an individual,” Madelyn recalled. “It was inspiring seeing her compete, and it made us all set a goal to make it to State together this year.”

That sense of unity defines Madelyn’s experience as a student-athlete. She’s proud to represent Woodward and embraces the responsibility that comes with it. “Being a role model for younger athletes is my favorite part,” she said. “It’s not just about what you do during competition, it’s about the choices you make in every part of life.”

Madelyn finds motivation close to home. “My family inspires me to be the best version of myself,” she said. “We work together, we play together, and they never give up on me.” She also draws inspiration from her grandpa’s simple but powerful words:

“Be good.”

“As I’ve grown up, I’ve realized it means to make the choice to do well in all things, sports, school, work ethic, everything,” she explained.

Madelyn credits much of her progress to her parents and to Coach Terry, who she says has guided and supported her over the past three years. She’s also thankful for her teammate Peyton Sunderland, whose encouragement and humor brighten long practices.

As the new season approaches, Madelyn is determined to keep improving, on the course and beyond. Her goal remains clear: keep growing, keep believing, and help lead her team to the state tournament, together.
