“It’s a surprise and an honor to receive this award; however, the credit actually goes to my team,” said Lloyd. “These girls pour out their heart and soul into every game we play.”
Lloyd is the head girl’s basketball coach and will also be the head coach for tennis this spring. This is his first year at Woodward and in Oklahoma. He spent the past 30 years coaching and teaching in Texas.
By the time Lloyd was in high school he knew what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. He started out by coaching a sixth grade basketball team when he was in the eighth grade, and continued to do that through high school and also helped out when he was in college. While in college he suffered a knee injury, causing him to step away from playing, but allowed him to fully pursue his dream of becoming a teacher and coach.
“I love coaching and teaching the game of basketball,” said Lloyd. “I still get the adrenaline high on game days and love to see the excitement on the players faces when they have success or do something really good on the court.”
This season coach Lloyd is most excited about just getting to coach his girls.
“They have worked extremely hard for me and are a joy to be around, I look forward to seeing how this year plays out,” said Lloyd. “Their best on a nightly basis makes the game so enjoyable.”
Coach Lloyd grew up as an only child in Texas before meeting his wife of 29 years, Christy, while in college. Christy is also a teacher with Woodward Public Schools. They have three children together, all who followed in their parents footsteps as either a teacher, coach, or both.
