Deciding to go into teaching came later than may be expected for Jenni Wiederstain a teacher for Woodward High School. After graduating college with a degree in science her husband who is a teacher and coach turned high school principal told her she would be a great educator. Since then, she has been teaching science for the past six years. She taught her first two years teaching fifth and sixth grade science at Cordell Public Schools, then moved to their eighth-grade science as well as junior high and high school classes. After that she accepted a position at Woodward teaching eighth grade science classes again. This year she teaches Environmental Science, Biology, and Chemistry to high school students.
“I love interacting with my students and showing them how science applies to everyday life and incorporating lab activities,” Jenni said. “The students really do appreciate the hands-on activities.”
Her inspiration comes from wanting to be proud of what she does and what kind of a teacher she is.
“I seek out new and engaging ways to present topics and I enjoy sharing successes and failures with other teachers,” said Jenni.
Not only is Jenni busy being a high school science teacher, but she is also the freshman class sponsor this year.
Jenni has been married to her husband for ten years now. They have two wonderful children together, Reid who is seven, and Eden who is four. Jenni is a first-generation college graduate in her family, but she did marry into a teaching family. Her husband and mother-in-law were both teachers.
In her free time, she enjoys listening to audio books, making arts and crafts, as well as hosting friends and family over for great food and conversation. In the summertime Jenni and her family enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and swimming.
