Woodward High School soccer player, Kendal Wells could not be more in love with her sport. Sports for her are an escape; a place to feel at total peace.
“When I am playing a sport or when I am running, I feel at peace. I can actually breath and I have a clear and steady mind and I am able to block out the rest of the world,” said Kendal. “I feel closer to God and love running trails and being in nature.”
Starting soccer in elementary school Kendal had no idea it would bring her so much love and joy.
“Joining soccer gave me a second family; I gained a sport in my life that I love to play and I met new friends,” Kendal said.
Being a sophomore does not deter Kendal from being a leader for her team or school. She is the captain for the varsity soccer team and plays on two other soccer teams as goalkeeper. She also plays softball and runs cross country for the high school. Not only is she active in sports she is also a member of National Honor Society, student council, key club, as well as class treasurer.
Her inspiration to be a great goalkeeper comes from Adrianna Franch.
“I had the opportunity to train and learn from her at a camp at Oklahoma State University when I was in seventh grade, she played goalkeeper at OSU and became a professional goalkeeper,” said Kendal.
When asked what her favorite memory or highlight from soccer was, she simply could not choose just one.
“Each game means I have a chance to make big saves and new memories with my teammates and I can always remember the sensation of a great save,” Kendal said.
One memory that does stick out to her and she will always remember as a great one though is when she found out that she had made All District as a freshman.
