Getting to Know Jocelyn Treece – Presented by Kaleb Roach Agency

Woodward Lady Boomers Basketball

Coming into the 2021-22 season, head coach Lloyd Vedder called Jocelyn Treece a much-needed addition to the post and sometimes the perimeter. This proved to be true when you watch the Lady Boomers play.

We caught up with the sophomore to learn more about her and the school she loves to represent.

VYPE: Jocelyn, what is it about this team that you love and what do you love most about your teammates?

Treece: What I love most about my team is our connections on and off the floor. We’re like family, during practice there’s so much positive energy when doing drills so nobody gets down on themselves, if anyone is struggling in basketball or outside of it someone on the team is always there to help and be there for you. My confidence has boosted an enormous amount because of my coach. He has pushed me every day since the day he got to our school last year. He saw something in me that I couldn’t see at all until this summer. Confidence to me is the most important thing to have when going into a game, practice, and even stuff outside of basketball; my teammates and coaches are the biggest part in why my confidence is so high now, and I really just want to thank them for that.

VYPE: Moving to the classroom, what is your favorite subject in school and who is your favorite teacher?

Treece: My favorite subject in school is geometry. I walk into that classroom and know I’m going to learn something every day. Mrs. Clem is one of the best teachers I’ve had in a long time. She never gives us any days off from schoolwork, and I’ve never felt more prepared for any math test I’ve ever taken. Having a teacher that not only will be there to help you with your schoolwork but also your personal life problems is always really soothing to me. She is one of those teachers I know will understand when I’m going through something and is always going to be there for me if I need to talk. She just wants the best for all of us and you can really see that when you enter her room.

VYPE: Who has been a big influence in your life, on or off the court?

Treece: I have a few people who have made a big impact on my life so far. The first two people are my mom and dad. They’ve always been here for me whenever I need it, and even when I don’t. Having parents who will do anything for you and be there for you at any hour of the day, to boost your confidence when you’re feeling down about yourself is really refreshing. I know that if I ever need anything I have my family to be there for me. Another big influence in my life is my best-friend Riley Moore. I’ve known her and been playing sports with her since I was around three years old. One of the big things that really sticks out to me about her is that she’s always there for me. Having a friend who plays every sport with you and goes through everything with you is amazing. She has made my confidence boost a lot this year, just by complimenting me and telling me good job after a game, in practice, or even in school. She is one of the most encouraging people I’ve ever met, and just having her on this team with me and growing up with me my whole life shows that she’ll support me in every game we play together for the rest of our high school career. My last big influence is definitely all of my coaches I’ve had throughout my life so far. I just want to thank them all so much for pushing me through all my doubts and fears and making me believe in myself more than I thought I could. Having coaches who believe in you at all times and want the best for you is very refreshing to me. All of my coaches have supported me through everything I’ve done, and I want to thank them again for believing in me.
