Woodward Boomers Girls Basketball Preview – Presented by Great Plains Bank

Coach: Lacy Moore

2021-22 Record: 17-9

After spending ten years with Woodward, Lacy Moore takes charge in her first year as the head coach of the Lady Boomer basketball program. The Lady Boomers will have many players returning from last year’s team and will look to play fast, fierce, and be an exciting one to watch. “Look forward to us playing hard nose defense and being able to move the ball quickly and effectively,” Moore said. “The addition of talented young players will make us a hard team to beat.”

Thessaly Pfiefer returns as a three year starter and is a big time player maker on both ends of the floor. Throughout her career Pfiefer has achieved nearly 1,000 total points and should eclipse the feat very early into the season. Coaches are expecting another big year of production out of this reliable and experienced leader. Riley Moore comes into her junior year expecting to take on a different role this season. Coaches appreciate her ability to motivate teammates and control the floor when she’s on the court, but are looking for her to play with more aggression this year and create more scoring opportunities for herself.

Senior Averi Edwards is a defensive leader and easily the fastest player on the roster – most often on the floor in any given game – and creates havoc for ball handlers. Edwards, like Moore, will be asked to look to create more of their own scoring opportunities this season. A task that coaches are confident both will be able to achieve. Bryleigh Douglas-Fischer had a solid freshman year and as a sophomore this year has a chance to make a big impact on the court. Coaches have seen her steadily grow physically and mentally over the year and expect her to make a big leap in production this year and can’t wait to see what she is able to accomplish over the next few seasons.

Jocelyn Treece suffered an ACL injury last year as a sophomore. Now healthy coaches are excited to have her back for her junior season and were impressed by her recovery and positively throughout the process.  Alexis Ibarra is a junior this season and has spent the last two years being a team manager due to health concerns. “She is the heart and soul of our team,” Moore said. “Alexis battled a rare form of stomach cancer in her elementary years and is still battling health issues related to her cancer battle. She loves the game of basketball but loves being a part of this Boomer team even more. She is a true inspiration to us all.”
